In August 1955, perhaps inspired by the City’s recent decision to apply the unifying name of Mar Vista Street to a roadway that had had a number of disjointed identities (Baldwin, 6th, La Sexta, Ocean View Lane), residents Orin and Sylvia Nowlin, along with ten others, petitioned City Council to change 8th Street to Linda Vista Drive – linda vista being Spanish for “pretty view”. Council forwarded their petition to the City Planning Commission and it was approved on September 23rd. For whatever reason, the good people of 7th Street have remained content with its old name, despite its numerical isolation.
