If “Remmet” seems like a nonsense name, that’s because it is: this street was originally called Emmett Avenue. In 1917, after the City of Los Angeles had annexed the Valley, city leaders ordered a name change since there was already an Emmet Avenue in East Hollywood. Ironically, the latter street lost its name to Lexington Avenue just a couple of years later (although Hollywood has an Emmet Terrace). Anyway, some civil engineer had the brilliant idea of changing “Emmett” to “Remmet” and there you have it.
