Cedrus deodara is the Latin name for the Deodar Cedar, the likes of which have lined nearby Santa Rosa Avenue since the 1880s. (I’m no botanist, but it looks like Deodara Drive itself only has a couple of these evergreens.) Deodar Drive was named in 1926, six years after Santa Rosa Avenue began its annual transformation into “Christmas Tree Lane”.
