Named for Louis Ellenbogen (1892-1952), who had lived on nearby Woodward Avenue. Ellenbogen was a Hungarian Jew who immigrated to the U.S. in 1906 and came to L.A. in 1912. He married a woman named Julia Margaretten two years later, and by 1929 they had settled in rural Sunland-Tujunga. Ellenbogen manufactured women’s clothing, but he was listed as a “rancher” in the 1949 Sunland-Tujunga City Directory, so he probably owned the acreage where Ellenbogen Street now lies. The road took his name in 1954.
