Mary Ann Drive

It’s basically an alley, but William F. “Bill” Czuleger (1909-1997), then a Redondo Beach councilman, wanted it named for his daughter Mary Ann in the early 1950s. (The exact year is unknown.) Mayor Charles Wortham kept vetoing Czuleger’s request, so Czuleger waited for Wortham to go on vacation and had it quietly approved by City Council. “He stayed away too long and it became law,” said Czuleger, who would take a turn as Redondo’s mayor himself from 1961 until 1977.
