Medio is Spanish for “middle” (among other things), and Medio Drive, laid out in late 1921 on the Brentwood Country Club Estates tract – see 1st Helena Drive for some background – is indeed the middle road between Anita and Carmelina avenues. Those two streets were actually inaugurated fifteen years earlier on the Carlos Heights development. But without a street between them, the individual lots on Anita and Carmelina were narrow and deep – perhaps too much so for potential homebuyers. The addition of Medio Drive allowed for twice as many houses to be built upon the land.
