The inelegantly named Cutover Lane was rechristened Thousand Oaks Drive by city ordinance in 1929. There are indeed a couple of oak trees growing along this byway, but hardly a thousand! There’s an off chance that someone with the City made the connection between this part of town and the city of Thousand Oaks – the connection being Dr. Homer A. Hansen (1872-1960), who had owned a huge chunk of land just west of here (see Sunland Blvd.) and whose Ventura County property was subdivided into Thousand Oaks in 1922 (see Thousand Oaks Blvd.). That’s only a guess, mind you. The whole thing might just be a coincidence. For the record, Berkeley, CA established its own Thousand Oaks neighborhood back in 1909.
