Via Verde (Spanish for “green way”) was laid out between 1946 and 1947 as the lower road through the Covina Knolls development, owned by Roy S. and Edna L. Hitchcock, no relation to Alfred. (Tiny Roycove Drive is this Hitchcock’s only cameo here.) Rural yet freeway-adjacent, the 282 acre Covina Knolls was subdivided into plots between 1 and 12 acres in size. The Hitchcocks later moved to Palm Springs, then to Honolulu. Both died in the early 1990s.
