This was originally called Flower Street, laid out in 1885 on Sherman Page and Felix C. Howes’s doomed Monte Vista townsite. In 1929, three years after the City of Los Angeles annexed Sunland, the street had to be renamed to avoid postal conflicts with L.A.’s own Flower Street. Some civil engineer obviously thought “Floralita” sounded flowery enough, although it’s pure Spanglish: the actual Spanish diminutive for flor (flower) is florecita.
