Betty Lane

Betty, Stuart, and Shirley lanes were all laid out in 1952 on land owned by David Salot (1907-1989) and his wife Betty (1907-1970). Their two children were named Stuart (1937-2018) and Shirley (1940-2001) so there you have it. David Salot was born in Philadelphia, the son of Jewish immigrants from either Russia or Romania. (Records vary.) Betty a.k.a. Bess Mohilef was born in Manhattan to Russian Jewish parents. The Mohilefs made their way to Los Angeles in 1921, the Salots four years later. David and Betty were wedded in 1934. David soon opened a used car lot but eventually got into real estate; by 1949, he was partnering with the mighty Mark Taper on a development in Monterey Park. He (often with Betty) eventually owned and developed hundreds if not thousands of acres in Camarillo, Pacoima, and the San Diego area. As for the kids, Stuart Edwin Salot earned a PhD in chemistry at USC and owned an environmental engineering firm in Harbor City; I couldn’t find out much about Shirley Elaine Salot except that she married twice and moved up to Humboldt County.
