During Burbank’s big 1920s expansion, tracts along Brighton Street popped up quickly. Since the various tract owners all kept its name consistent across their properties, I assume it was civil engineers with the City who coined it. Brighton was probably just chosen because it sounded agreeable – I found no other inspirations for the name. The street’s earliest recorded stretch was laid out in February 1923 between Clark and Verdugo; for what it’s worth, that tract’s owners Walter D. and Cleo B. King, who had owned a ranch here in the days before subdivision, were both SoCal natives with no ties to Brighton, UK or Brighton Beach, NY.
