Named for Andrew William “Drew” Glassell (1916-2005) shortly before his fourth birthday by his grandfather Andrew Glassell Jr. (In case you can’t get enough of the name, Glassell Park’s original landowner was Andrew Glassell Sr. See Glassell Street for his bio.) Little Drew, the only child of William and Margaret Glassell, grew up right here in Glassell Park, although not on his eponymous street. After graduating from USC, he married Mildred Lucille “Millie” Harman (1919-2002) in 1939 and had two sons with her: Andrew – yes, another one – and John. Drew Glassell got into the plumbing business and moved his family to La Cañada Flintridge by 1950. The lifelong boating and fishing enthusiast then ran a boat repair company for several years before he, Mildred, and their boys settled on Newport Beach’s Balboa Island.
