Ezmirlian Street

My best guess is that this 1947 street honors Garabed Ezmirlian (c. 1890-1965), an Armenian who was born in Turkey and came to the United States in 1913. After stabs at businesses like fruit dealing and “movie dolls” – whatever those could have been – he made his mark in real estate, which is why I’m nominating him as this street’s namesake. Although Ezmirlian lived and worked in Hermosa Beach, it’s entirely possible that he owned this land as investment property. (The only names on the 1947 tract map are those belonging to banks and mortgage companies, which was common; Ezmirlian could have easily been the landowner.) Our subject never married or had children but his obituary reported that he had cousins in L.A. and Long Beach.
