This was originally called Slack Road, after El Monte native George Slack (1864-1960). (Killian Street, which borrows his wife Lena’s maiden name, still exists; see that for more on the Slacks.) It was renamed in 1986 in memory of Father Michael Anthony Hunt (1915-1984), pastor of the Epiphany Catholic Church, which is located on this very street. Hunt was born in County Waterford, Ireland and was ordained there in 1936. He came to L.A. in the late 1930s and worked as an assistant pastor at Catholic churches across the Southland, from Burbank to West Hollywood to Wilmington. Epiphany was founded in 1956; Hunt was appointed its pastor in 1958, directed construction of its church and school, and served until his death. He was posthumously accused of having sexually abused a minor girl in 1957-1958.
