The origin of Roselake’s name is a no-brainer, since it lies between Rosemont and Lake, but how it came into existence is a surprisingly tortuous saga. City Council announced in June 1925 that they planned to add Roselake as a brand new street – an uncommon occurrence at a time when modest byways like this were typically carved out by private developers. Although I failed to uncover Council’s rationale for creating Roselake, I can tell you that property owners along Rosemont and Lake were livid about the City taking a bite out of their back yards. Thus followed three and a half years of protests, petitions, meetings, and delays. The City finally registered the street in December 1928 – then took almost two more years to pave it.
