Aqua Vista Street

Aqua vista is Latin for “water view” and obviously alludes to the nearby Los Angeles River. In fact this street was born in 1911 as Rio Vista Street on the River View tract, co-owned by Josie McCormick. Its name was changed by city ordinance in November 1916: Los Angeles had annexed the San Fernando Valley a year earlier, and since L.A. already had a Rio Vista Avenue, this one had to go.
