Named in 1902 for Barton Jones (1901-1976), infant son of Grace Cole Jones (1869-1943) and grandson of Colegrove founder Senator Cornelius Cole. (Several streets here are named for Cole family members: see Cole Avenue for more.) In spite of his highfalutin background, Barton went on to live a normal enough life: he worked as a machinery engineer, married a woman named Gladys, had a daughter named Judith, a son named Arthur, and seven grandchildren.
