There are two Bohlig Roads, eight miles apart as the crow flies: Glendale’s was named in 1923, El Sereno’s in 1924. Both were born on tracts subdivided by Walter H. Leimert and both honor the same woman. Charlot Block (1898-1986), whose husband was Leimert’s sales director at the time (see Block Place), was born Charlot Norine Bohlig in San Francisco, the only child of John and Lottie Bohlig. Dad was a real estate man – his “Chateau Bohlig” apartment building still stands on SF’s Nob Hill – who passed away in 1920 and left a small fortune to his wife and daughter. Charlot married Lawrence Medford Block (1897-1980) just five weeks later and they settled in Beverly Hills, where they raised daughters Jackie and Sue. Charlot was also chairwoman of the Beverly Hills USO during World War 2.
