Alas, there are no hamburger joints along Burger Avenue – and alas, I couldn’t find the inspiration behind its name. All I can tell you is that the street was originally laid out in 1921 as Douglas Avenue and was renamed Burger in 1923. I assume it refers to someone’s surname, since folks weren’t yet shortening the word “hamburger” to “burger” in 1923, but of the various Burgers who lived in L.A. at that time, none stand out as likely namesakes.
