In 1923, when colorful developer Victor Girard (né Kleinberger; he dropped his surname in 1918 in the midst of WWI’s anti-German fervor) laid out the town of Girard – today’s Woodland Hills – he gave his streets names inspired by Spanish/Mexican era California. Given this context, Del Valle Street must refer to Ygnacio del Valle (1808-1880), ranchero and statesman. See Carthay Circle’s Del Valle Drive for more on him.
