Laurel Avenue

Nothing surprising here: Laurel Avenue takes its name from Laurel Canyon. The street was first laid out on the 1905 Crescent Heights tract, owned by William Hay and Charles Norton. Hay and Norton made sure to mention Laurel Canyon in their ads for the tract, so obviously the “Laurel” name already had some cache in 1905. Trivia: Laurel Avenue was briefly renamed Floral Avenue in 1923-1925. There’s still a little remnant of that north of Hollywood Blvd.
