Sumiya Drive

Construction exec Robert Michael “Mike” Myers and his wife Noni (née Jaramillo) owned the tract on which Sumiya Drive was laid out in 1962. The year before that – maybe earlier – the couple built a Japanese-themed home here and dubbed it “Sumiya House”. They might have been inspired by famous Woolworth heiress Barbara Hutton, whose mansion in Cuernavaca, Mexico was called “Sumiya”, but they claimed to have borrowed the name directly from Kyoto’s 17th century Sumiya geisha house. The Myerses sold their home in 1967, not long after their divorce.
