Twin Lakes Park opened here in 1927 as a rustic escape for Angelenos… provided they were willing to purchase lodges. This private community did indeed offer a pair of small manmade lakes – now long gone – and its streets were given Western-themed names in the 1940s: Apache Trail, Mojave Trail, Wahoo Trail, etc. As for Wo-He-Lo Trail, the name comes from Camp Fire, formerly known as Camp Fire Girls. This outdoor-oriented youth organization was founded in 1910; “Wohelo”, the Camp Fire watchword, is short for “Work Health Love”. As far as I can tell, there’s never been any connection between Camp Fire and Twin Lakes.
