Named by homebuilder Ronald Sanders “Ron” Dunas (1926-2019) on a tract he owned with his then-brother-in-law Morton Greene. (The two ran a firm with another brother-in-law, Stuart Swidler.) Dunas was born in Chicago but moved to Los Angeles with his family in 1932. Renowned in his youth – and in his later years – for his tennis prowess, Dunas graduated from UCLA and got into the construction and development business in the 1950s. (Dunas Lane was named in 1954.) Along with erecting office buildings on Melrose, Wilshire, and Santa Monica Blvd., Dunas oversaw residential tracts in Pacoima, Encino, and Santa Ana, where you’ll find Dunas Road, Swidler Place, and Romelle Avenue – the latter named after Dunas’s second wife. (He married thrice.) Dunas even produced a handful of B-movies over the years.
