Kittridge Street

This little byway was born in 1874 when San Fernando was laid out by Charles Maclay and company. It wasn’t labeled on the 1874 town map, so either it wasn’t officially named until an 1888 tract or was simply too small on the map to squeeze its name in. Many San Fernando streets honor prominent early Angelenos, few of whom had much to do with San Fernando itself. But Willard Kittredge (1829-1886) definitely did – even if this street misspelled his name. He operated two hotels here in the 1870s; at least one of them would have been in the vicinity of Kittridge Street.
