Landowners Lucille and John Eggers combined their first names to form “Lujon”. Lucille Lydia Niemeyer (1909-1981) – she later changed her middle name to Eleanor – was born in Iowa but came to Whittier with her family in 1911. As chance or fate would have it, John William Eggers (1903-1991), a South Dakota boy, moved to Whittier that same year. They married in May 1928; their only child Richard was born that November. (Feel free to speculate.) The newlyweds settled on Kwis Avenue, steps away from today’s Lujon Street, which they laid out a full twenty years later on a tract they owned with Mart and Edna Silman. Can’t say much else about the Eggerses; I only know that John was a field foreman at a water company as well as a volunteer rainfall measurer. Of course he dabbled in real estate too.
