Many of the streets on the 1906 Redondo Villa tract are named after famous Gilded Age industrialists. (See Carlson Lane for the shifty character behind the tract.) Rindge Lane honors a local one: financier/philanthropist Frederick Hastings Rindge (1857-1905), who had passed away less than a year earlier. Rindge was born into wealth in Cambridge, MA and moved to Los Angeles in 1887. Five years later, he and his wife May K. Rindge purchased Malibu – the entire thing. See Playa del Rey’s Rindge Avenue for more biography.
