Named (in 1960) for Missouri-born, California-raised oilman William Benjamin Scott (1868-1920) and his Maine-bred wife Luna Mentora Scott (née Hardison, 1869-1925), who in 1915 purchased Montebello’s oldest building, the Sánchez Adobe, along with forty-five acres around it. The Scotts are credited with restoring the 1845 house, which had fallen into disrepair. It remained in the family for decades: their daughter Josephine got married there in 1932 as part of a double wedding. Josephine and her brother Keith sold off most of the land by the 1950s but held on to the adobe until officially donating it to the City of Montebello in 1972.
