Simply put, “Dewap” is short for “Department of Water and Power”: this street abuts the DWP’s downtown headquarters. When the DWP started constructing the building in 1965, they razed over Flower Street between 1st and Temple and replaced it with this acronymic access road, which was officially named the following year.
