Amador means “lover” in Spanish, but Amador Street isn’t a play on nearby Casanova Street (which actually honors Solano Canyon settler Rosa Casanova). Its eponym is Amador County, itself named for soldier/rancher/miner José María Amador (1794-1883). Amador Street was named in 1903, as were Yuba Street and Yolo Drive – both since erased by the Arroyo Seco Parkway. Not coincidentally, Amador, Yuba, and Yolo are all Northern California counties. Apparently Alfred Solano, who owned the tract and this very canyon, thought it would be funny to riff off his own surname – Solano also happens to be a NorCal county.
