Probably named for Albert Stillman Chase (1843-1927), a Glendale resident who had real estate holdings in what is now Panorama City – his partners included Frank Vesper and James Wakefield – although it was C.Q. Stanton (see Parthenia Street, named for his granddaughter) who owned the tract on which the first segment of Chase Street was laid out in 1916. Born in upstate New York, Albert Chase moved to Minnesota in 1859 with his father and brothers – Mom stayed behind; it’s not known why his parents split – and held a series of jobs: newspaper typographer, Civil War soldier, shoe merchant, railroad ticket agent. This last position eventually led Chase to riches in the rail industry; he then got into banking, mining, and other capitalistic pursuits. In 1904, at the age of sixty, Chase got married for the first time. Minnie Scott Douglas (1883-1973) was an Ohio gal forty years his junior, yet despite the age gap it was apparently a happy union that produced four children, the youngest of whom (David) died in 2015 at the age of 104. The Chases left Minnesota for Glendale in 1912.
