La Presa Drive

La presa means three very different things in Spanish: “the prey”, “the female prisoner”, and “the dam”. While the first two definitions might symbolize life in Hollywood for some people, in this case let’s go with “the dam” – La Presa Drive was named in 1926, two years after the completion of the Mulholland Dam that created Lake Hollywood. It’s possible that, at the time, one could enjoy views of the reservoir and/or dam from certain portions of this street; you’d have to ask someone who lives on La Presa if that’s still the case today.
