La presa means three very different things in Spanish: “the prey”, “the female prisoner”, and “the dam”. While the first two definitions might symbolize life in Hollywood for some people, in this case let’s go with “the dam” – La Presa Drive was named in 1925, shortly after the completion of the Mulholland Dam that created Lake Hollywood. It’s probably not a coincidence.
