Los Bonitos Way

Just outside of Griffith Park, you’ll find a group of alphabetically-named streets. They are Los Adornos (the ornaments), Los Bonitos (the pretty ones), Los Caballeros (the gentlemen), Los Diegos (the, uh, Diegos), Los Encantos (the charms), Los Franciscos (the, well, Franciscos), Los Grandes (the big ones), and Los Hermosos (the beautiful ones). These eight small streets, bordered by Winona and Hobart, make up the pricy Los Feliz Estates, opened in 1962. It was one of the last undeveloped parcels of land owned by the William Mead estate (its trustee: Mead’s widow Nella Wilde Mead); Mead had purchased 532 acres of Los Feliz from Griffith J. Griffith in 1910 (see Hillhurst Avenue). The estate had originally proposed several high-rise apartment buildings here. Neighbors nixed that idea, so the tract was reworked for single family homes.
