Patricia Avenue

Patricia Avenue was named in 1922 by the Janss Investment Company, the owners/developers of Westwood. Many etymologies of Janss-named streets remain opaque, but it’s quite likely that “Patricia” refers to Patricia Cluff “Patsy” Janss (1912-1939), daughter of Edwin Janss. A Marlborough School graduate whose active social life was well-documented in the society column, Janss married financier George Gregson in 1935 and had two children with him, but perished days after Gregson accidentally drove their car off a 150 foot embankment in Yosemite on December 26th, 1938. (Gregson survived.)
