This “shore” refers to a pair of brothers from Toronto: T.E. Egerton Shore (1871-1944) and Allan Shore (1873-1947). The elder Shore was a high-ranking Methodist missionary while little brother Allan was a doctor at Montreal General Hospital. In 1913, they both abruptly quit their jobs and emigrated to the U.S. They popped up in Hollywood the following year, ready to sell real estate. We can guess at the Shores’ motivation behind giving up their stately vocations and moving to sunny California; at any rate, in 1921 they opened the Shoreham Heights tract here (where Horn Avenue and Sherbourne Drive were also born), as well the West Knoll tract down the hill. West Knoll, Westbourne, and Westmount drives all originated there.
